After two whirlwind weeks on OB, I’ve seen more brand spankin new babies than I ever thought I would. I LOVED every minute of it too- it was a nice blend of doing medical management (pregnant people get sick too), actually doing procedures (deliveries), working on my diagnostic skills (is this woman going to deliver a baby right here and now in triage?!?), and getting to connect with patients. I loved walking into a room and talking to a laboring mom and dad about their soon-to-be bundle of joy. It felt nice to be able to answer some of their questions and be a cheerleader when Mom was pushing.
And welcoming those babies into the world (of course) reminded me of my precious Nana. Nana loved children more than anything in the world and she was wonderful with them. It felt like a very special gift to be able to come through losing Nana only to go into what she loved most in the world. Every baby felt like a blessing, just like Nana always thought they were.
(I actually don’t know this baby…but what a cutie!)
