This past weekend, my baby brother graduated from St. Michael’s College in Burlington, VT. We spent the weekend with my parents and my brother and went out for great dinners, took a great hike up the Stowe Pinnacle trail, and walked around campus. The highlight of the weekend was watching my brother walk across the stage and accept his diploma. They had a WONDERFUL graduation speaker. His name is Tom Freston, and he is one of the original founders of MTV but had an awesome, circuitous path to success including moving to India and running a textile business that went under. I’m posting the video here because it’s so amazing. It spoke to the current graduates, the “recent”-ish graduates, and the older generations ( I polled our group). If you have 20 minutes, please watch it.
Some of the gems:
– Don’t be afraid of hard work
– Take whatever opportunities present to you
– Don’t be in a rush to be “normal”
– Take the circuitous route
