We’re so excited to be going to Seattle to do rotations there! While we have a lease, there are a few days that we needed to cover between our flight and the start of the lease. Enter priceline.com’s “name your own price” function.
In case you’re unfamiliar with it, essentially you go to the “name your own price” tab on priceline.com and pick the city and dates you are interested in. Depending on the size of city, you can then select the different neighborhoods you’d be interested in staying at. You also have the option of how high brow you’d like your hotel to be- you can select how many stars at a minimum the hotel must have. Then, you put in a bid for what you would like to pay to stay in the city you’ve selected, on the dates you want, and in the neighborhood and star range you’re comfortable with. If the hotel decides they’d rather have the room rented than wait for people to pay full price, they’ll accept your offer. If not, you’ll get the option of trying again with a higher bid.
For us, this totally worked out. We put in an offer of $80 per night and were able to snag 2 nights at a 4 star hotel (we had picked 3.5 stars and up) for $170 total, with taxes and fees. AMAZING, considering right now on priceline without using the name your own price tool the exact same room is renting for $170 per night (total of 400 for two nights- not sure why but the taxes and fees were lower with our offer too!).
I count that as a big win. Although I am kicking myself for not offering $70 and seeing if they took it.
